(BaseballStL) — The comparisons are there.  Jim Edmonds was a high flying center fielder traded from the Angels to the Cardinals.  Peter Bourjos is a high flying center fielder traded from the Angels to the Cardinals.

Do they see any similarities in each other?

"No because I couldn't run.  [Bourjos] can run," Edmonds deadpanned. "He's a lot better than I was."

The newest Cardinal doesn't see it that way.

"I think he was probably a lot better than I was," Bourjos said. "I watched him growing up taking away home runs, diving all over the place and making great plays. It's an honor to work with him and get to know him as a person."

Bourjos comes over to the Cardinals in the David Freese trade to solidify the defense in center field that Jon Jay lacked at times in 2013.  His bat will be another story in itself because the outfielder typically hasn't gotten on base much in his professional career.  But from the day the trade was announced GM John Mozeliak thought switching leagues from the AL to the NL could help.

Being a Cardinal, however, is something else entirely.

"This is something that's totally different.  It's a different monster.  But it seems to bring out the best in everybody.  It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to it," Edmonds said.
