PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (BaseballStL) – Allen Craig has yet to play in the field this spring as he continues to deal with a sore right shoulder. But that could soon change.

Manager Mike Matheny said before Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets that Craig could be close to making his debut in the field. He’s only pinch-hit and served as the DH in the first few Grapefruit League games.

“I think so,” Matheny said. “We’re just giving him time, but I think so. Things are progressing well.”

First baseman Matt Adams is dealing with tendinitis in his left knee and has been limited to DH appearances also, leaving the Cardinals in a pinch at first base. Free agent signing Ty Wigginton has seen the bulk of the action at first base so far and started there again Wednesday against the Mets.
