(KMOV.com) -- Chris Carpenter hasn’t played all year for the Cardinals, but he’s been with the team as surrogate coach and pitching psychologist.
He’s also in uniform when the team plays and practices. At today’s workout at Fenway Park in preparation for the World Series, Carpenter asked if he could take batting practice.
When you’ve played 15 years in the league, have 144 career wins, a Cy Young award and two World Series rings, the answer you get to that question is, “Sure, Chris. You can get in there and take a couple of hacks.’
Carpenter wanted to see if he could hit any batting practice fastballs over the Green Monster. Witnesses are reporting that he hit five out of the park. That just might be Carpenter’s final accomplishment in a baseball uniform as he nears the end of a brilliant career.
