(Baseball StL) – The road to recovery for Chris Carpenter winds into Memphis Saturday night.
Carpenter will take the mound for the Memphis Redbirds against Oklahoma City in a 6:05 p.m. start.
This will be his second rehab after he threw three simulated innings at Busch a week ago.
His first pit stop was for the AA club in Springfield. In that start Carpenter went 2 2/3 innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs and striking out five.
Speaking after that appearance, the 2005 Cy Young winner said his next step was improving his location.
“You have to be realistic with where I’ve been and where I’m coming from. Again I made a few bad pitches in one inning but other than that I threw the ball well,” he said. “Command can get better but that will come with time. Hopefully.”
Carpenter’s rehab assignment can last no longer than 30 days before the Cardinals have to decide whether to put him on the 25-man roster or back on the disabled list.
