SAN FRANCISCO (BaseballStL) – The Cardinals expected starter Chris Carpenter to be effective on the mound, but it is what he is doing at the plate that has people surprised.

Let this soak: Carpenter has as many hits (3) as Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez this postseason.  It’s hard to believe, right?

Prior to this postseason, he had three hits in 32 postseason at-bats; he is 3-for-4 with two doubles in this postseason alone.

Carpenter’s two doubles in one postseason mark the first time a pitcher had more than one in a single postseason since Orel Hershiser in 1988.

Unfortunately, Carpenter allowed five runs (two earned) and six hits in four innings in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Giants.
