(BaseballSTL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed on a one-year contract with left-handed relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski, the team announced Friday.

The deal means Rzepczynski and the Cardinals will avoid arbitration.

Rzepczynski, 27, had 19 holds in 70 appearances for the Cardinals last season.

He ended the season with eight scoreless appearances and allowed runs in only three of his last 33 games after July 1.

The lefty joined the Cardinals in a trade from Toronto at the July trade deadline in 2011.

With the signing, third baseman David Freese remains the last arbitration-eligible player the Cardinals have left unsigned.
