(BaseballStL) - Former closer Jason Motte is still a ways away from getting back on the mound of a Major League game.  But he is taking small steps each and every day to try and get there.

Motte recently threw a bullpen session and the powers that be are excited about what they saw."

"(He) threw the ball well," Mike Matheny said. "There was a little higher intensity and he felt good and responded well for it."

Motte recently said he doesn't believe he'll be ready for Opening Day.  But Matheny doesn't want his power armed reliever thinking about anything other than progressing.

"He just needs to stay the course with what we're talking about and not making anything more or less complicated," Matheny said. "Just try and take a step forward each day and not put timelines (on anything).  The task at hand is getting better."
