(KMOV) – The St. Louis Cardinals on Monday optioned second baseman Kolten Wong to Triple-A Memphis, calling up rookies Randal Grichuk and Greg Garcia. Outfield Shane Robinson was also sent down to the minors.

The Cardinals started the season with plans for Wong to take over the everyday second baseman job, but the second-player has struggled mightily at the plate. In his last eight at-bats, Wong had four hits and was losing playing time to veteran Mark Ellis.

Both outfielder Grichuk, 22, and infielder Garcia, 24, have enjoyed great starts to the season. Grichuk, who the Cardinals acquired from the Angels with Peter Bourjos in November, hit .333 in 20 games with Memphis.

Garcia led the Red Birds with five home runs while splitting time at second base and shortstop.

Both players will join the team for their series against Milwaukee.
