(BaseballStL) -- Cardinals manager Mike Matheny confirmed Joe Kelly will start Game 3 in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The announcement came as little surprise with starters Michael Wacha and Shelby Miller in the bullpen for Game 1 on Thursday.

Kelly posted a 3-1 record with a 2.53 earned-run average in six appearances, including three starts, against the Pirates this season. In three games (two starts) at PNC Park, Kelly allowed one run on eight hits and six walks over 14 innings pitched.

Last month, Kelly beat the Pirates in consecutive outings on September 1 and September 6 allowing one run over six innings pitched in each start. He’s 7-2 with a 2.34 ERA in his last ten starts.

The Pirates will send wild-card winner Francisco Liriano to the mound to oppose Kelly. Liriano allowed only two runs over three starts (24 innings pitched) against St. Louis this season.
