(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals added right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto from Triple-A Memphis and optioned Victor Marte to the minors on Wednesday.

Marte was charged with the loss after allowing a run to score in the 14th inning of Tuesday’ 7-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He appeared in four games total and allowed two runs in three innings pitched since the call-up.

He now returns to Memphis as Cleto joins the big league squad. Cleto has been used as a starter since May 2 and has posted a 2-1 record with a 2.97 ERA in six starts.

Cleto is no stranger to St. Louis. He has appeared in 12 games with the Cardinals, including nine relief appearances last season.
