The Cardinals are in Jupiter, Florida for spring training. Our own Brian Feldman is in the middle of all the action. Brian will provide constant updates, so check back through the day for the very latest news.

March 3, 2:49 p.m. - Talked to Brandon Dickson. Says he still hasn't calmed down yet. Was very jacked up to pitch in a big league spring game. Thought he did fine.

March 3, 1:06 p.m. - Not the best of debuts for Ryan Franklin. 2 base hits so far. His game is keeping the ball down. When it gets hit...it's usually because it's up.

March 3, 12:56 p.m. - Dickson predictably done after 51 pitches and 3 innings. Franklin takes over. I really hope he gets to face 17 year old Bryce Harper. That'd be nearly a 20 year age difference.

March 3, 12:54 p.m. - Trouble continues for Dickson in the 3rd. Jayson Werth drills a base hit to the OF. Dickson then gets out of the inning. Overall...2 runs(1 earned) on 4 hits in 3 innings of work. I'd give him a B+. Great through 2 but not as much in the final frame.

March 3, 12:48 p.m. - Desmond then hits RBI single to score Morgan. That prompts a visit from Mr. Duncan and gets Ryan Franklin busy in the 'pen. At least nothing has been hit hard off Dickson. Just ground balls finding holes.

March 3, 12:46 p.m. - First ugly play of the day. Morgan drops a bunt...Molina fields it even though its probably going foul...overthrows Albert at 1st...runner from 2nd scores and Morgan advances to 3rd.

March 3, 12:43 p.m. - Keeping the tally going. 5 ground ball outs in 2.1 innings...that'll make the pitching coach happy.

March 3, 12:40 p.m. -- No runs on 3 hits for the Cards thru a couple innings including 0-4 with RISP. Ahh visions of the end of 2009.

March 3, 12:32 p.m. -- Pretzel guy now dancing in stands.  Is he that desperate for attention?  Will this REALLY make people more likely to buy a pretzel?

March 3, 12:30 p.m. -- Another shutout inning for Dickson. That's 4 ground ball outs, one strikeout (Ivan Rodriguez) and a pop up for those scoring at home.
Walk to Ankiel is the only base runner he's allowed. Been pretty good thus far.

March 3, 12:23 p.m. -- Rick Ankiel gets a big ovation from the fans here.

March 3, 12:21 p.m. --...and Hamilton strikes out. Cox then lines out to 3rd. Good to see him go the other way at least. People in press box saying Cox has a "bat for 2nd and glove for 3rd". I certainly hope not for Cards' sake.

March 3, 12:17 p.m. -- Albert not happy with strike call to take count to 1-2...so he takes the next pitch up the middle for a base hit. Hamilton gets a chance with 2 on...

March 3, 12:12 p.m. -- Dickson off to a nice start. 1-2-3 in the opening frame...going 6-3, 6-3, F4. Against the Nationals' Major League lineup no less. Nyjer Morgan, Ian Desmond, Jayson Werth.

March 3, 12:06 p.m. -- St. Louis? 45 degrees. Jupiter? Sunny and 76!

March 3, 12:05 p.m. -- All right...Brandon Dickson takes the mound. His margin for error in this 5th starter competition is minimal at best. Especially after the way Lance Lynn pitched yesterday and Kyle McClellan the odds on favorite to begin with.

March 3, 12:03 p.m. --Mike Matheny out for lineup exhange along with Jim Riggleman for the Nats. Riggleman one of the best guys in the business.  Could he be a candidate to replace Tony La Russa when he retires???  Certainly not out of the question.  He's got ties to the organization.

March 3, 11:57 a.m. -- Berkman out due to tightness in his calf. Zack Cox is now the DH.

March 3, 9:39 a.m. -- Bryce Harper has arrived with the Nationals. He's chatting it up with Albert right now.  Rick Ankiel also here and in the starting lineup.  Waiting to chat with him.

March 3, 9:09 a.m. --Was thinking this before. Imagine how much more depth this organization has at 3rd base now than a couple years ago. Got Freese, Carpenter and Cox. Had a hurt Freese and nothing else fairly recently.

March 3, 9:03 a.m. -- They really like Matt Carpenter and what he can do defensively.  Probably athletic enough to play OF if needed to. Legitimate prospect.

March 3, 9:01 a.m. --Oquendo says Craig has improved his arm a lot for the infield...range to his right is the problem. Going left is fine...right is an Issue.  They might have him play closer to the line to compensate for that.

March 3, 8:52 a.m. --Oquendo says "you never know what Tony's going to do" in reference to infielders possibly needing to play outfield.  Tony once said infielders playing OF is like taking half a day off.

March 3, 8:46 a.m. --Jose Oquendo doing the managing for the home game with La Russa in Port St Lucie. And taking Tony's pregame chat duties as well. Loves working with the young guys on their defense like Craig and Carpenter.

March 3, 8:00 a.m. -- I will be covering (hence providing updates for) the home game versus the Nationals. Can't be 2 places at once people...

March 3, 7:57 a.m. -- Lineup for away game vs. Mets: Greene 6...Carpenter 5...Craig 3...Holliday DH...Stavinoha 9...Cazana 7...Laird 2...Descalso 4...Robinson 8...with Garcia pitching and Kelly, Ottavino, Sanchez and Walters in relief

March 3, 7:53 a.m. -- Lineup for home game vs. Nationals:  Theriot 6...Rasmus 8...Pujols 3...Berkman DH...Hamilton 9...Molina 2...Schumaker 4...Vasquez 5...Chambers 7.  Dickson pitching with Cleto, Franklin, Samuel and Snell in relief.
