JUPITER, Fla -- Today's lineup has a regular season feel to it except for one small problem. One of their key offseason acquisitions, center fielder Peter Bourjos, is still out with a tight hamstring that has bothered him the last couple days.
But the former Angel is close to coming back.
"(Bourjos) is chomping to get back in there. It could be the next couple days (when he plays)," Mike Matheny said.
While Bourjos is unable to play, his chief competition for playing time in center has gotten off to a nice start in Grapefruit League play. Jon Jay is 3-12 (.250 avg) with a double and a walk. The coaching staff has raved over how much better he's played.
To make sure he doesn't fall too far behind, Bourjos is working with trainers to get back as soon as possible.
"They kid of have an idea in their mind when something gets to a certain level to give a certain amount of days (off). We're just trying to wait it out right now," Matheny said.
