JUPITER, Fla. - Mitchell Boggs was so anxious to get back to Cardinals camp that he woke up at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and took a car service up I-95 from Miami back to Jupiter so he could be here for the morning stretch.
Boggs, who spent the last two weeks pitching for Team USA, returned after they were eliminated following a loss to Puerto Rico on Friday night.
"It was a good experience," Boggs said. "It was something that I was honored to be a part of and something that will be special to me for a long time. Getting to experience playing for your country is something that was really neat and I was just thankful for the opportunity."
The right-hander pitched in one exhibition game and made two appearances in Team USA's six games.
"It was a situation where we only played six games and had a lot of off days and a lot of starting pitchers and a lot of bullpen guys," Boggs said. "You're probably not going to get to pitch if you were in camp but we all knew that. We all signed up for that. It's something that when you're on a team like that, you're not necessarily going to get used like you would in camp but it's part of being a part of something that was really neat. I have enough time left to where I'll be ready in two weeks."
Boggs is scheduled to pitch in Sunday's game against the Florida Marlins.
