ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman will have season-ending knee surgery on Tuesday, manager Mike Matheny told reporters prior to the series opener against the Padres.
Berkman flew to Houston to have his knee re-examined on Monday. He has dealt with knee discomfort since having a procedure done on the knee in May.
There have also been reports stating that Berkman may head into retirement at the end of this season and the news of season-ending knee surgery does not look promising for fans.
Berkman, who has played in only three games since August 3, is batting .263 with two home runs and 17 RBIs in 80 at-bats.
