JUPITER, Fla.(Baseball StL) -- No big bats in the lineup, no problem for the Cardinals offense.
Playing without most of their regular starters the Cardinals offense erupted for 15 runs and 14 hits in a 15-4 win over the Boston Red Sox across the state in Fort Myers.
The Cardinals scored 10 runs and 15 hits in Monday’s blowout of the Astros and had another laugher Tuesday despite leaving Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina, David Freese, Jon Jay and Allen Craig back in Jupiter. Matt Adams hit a pinch-hit two-run homer and later walked with the bases loaded and outfielder Justin Christian added two hits and two RBI for the Cardinals, who scored 12 runs in the final four innings of the game.
Outfield prospect Oscar Taveras went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to continue a hot streak at the plate. He’s hit several balls hard through the first four games.
Ten different players had hits for the Cardinals including infielder Ryan Jackson, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
The Cardinals, who have scored 25 runs and recorded 29 hits the past two games, travel to Port St. Lucie to battle the Mets on Wednesday. Most of the regulars are expected to return to the lineup.
