LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Jhonny Peralta homered twice against his former team in the St. Louis Cardinals' 8-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Peralta played for the Tigers for three and a half seasons before signing with St. Louis as a free agent this offseason. Nick Castellanos homered for the Tigers. Castellanos, Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and Austin Jackson had two hits apiece.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Hector Gimenez added a tiebreaking double in the sixth to lift the Chicago White Sox over the Kansas City Royals 9-7 yesterday. The White Sox scored three in the first off starter Jeremy Guthrie. Conor Gillaspie also had a two-run double for Chicago.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Phil Forte matched a season high with 23 points to help Oklahoma State defeat Kansas State 77-61 last night. Marcus Smart scored 18 points and Markel Brown added 15 for the Cowboys. Oklahoma State is unbeaten since Smart returned from a three-game suspension for shoving a Texas Tech fan.

DETROIT (AP) — The Motor City's top brass played yesterday before an exhibition game between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals. A Detroit Symphony Orchestra brass quintet played the national anthem Monday afternoon before the game at Joker Marchant Stadium. The ensemble consists of trumpeters Hunter Eberly and Bill Lucas, trombonist Randy Hawes, tubist Dennis Nulty and Dave Everson on horn.
