KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Ron Baker scored 23 points as No. 12 Wichita State held off BYU for a 75-62 victory last night in the title game of the CBE Classic. Fred VanVleet and Cleanthony Early added 12 points each for the Shockers. Wichita State trailed by two at halftime but used hustle and physical play inside to wear down the Cougars.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Jarmar Gulley scored 13 points as Missouri State defeated Liberty 54-52 last night. A 3-pointer by Gulley gave Missouri State a 54-50 lead with 1:22 remaining. Gulley finished with a game-high eight rebounds. Christian Kirk was the only other Bear to score in double figures with 10.

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — No. 10 Wisconsin blunted a Saint Louis surge to win 63-57 yesterday and advance to face West Virginia in today's finals of the Cancun Challenge. Wisconsin opened the second half with a 6-2 run and led by 15. But Saint Louis surged to within 5. Traevon Jackson's 10 points down the stretch helped keep the Billikens at bay.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have acquired catcher George Kottaras from the Kansas City Royals for a cash consideration. Kottaras served as Kansas City's backup catcher last season after being claimed off waivers from Oakland in January. He is a .214 hitter with 29 home runs and 96 RBIs over 295 major league games.
