ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly and Dodgers reserve outfielder Scott Van Slyke engaged in a standoff of sorts before the start of Game 6 of the NL championship series.
Both players held their spots after the national anthem Friday night and stared across the field at each other for several minutes before first pitch. Kelly moved first but quickly returned to his spot.
Home plate umpire Greg Gibson eventually waved his arms, a signal to cut it out.
The game finally got underway with the temperature at first pitch just 52 degrees, 23 degrees cooler than the Game 2 matchup between Clayton Kershaw and Michael Wacha.
