LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Jim Furyk (FYOOR'-ihk) tied the PGA Tour competitive record of 59 in the second round of the BMW Championship. He's the sixth player to shoot a 59 in tournament play and it gives him a tie for the 36-hole lead with Brandt Snedeker (SNEH'-deh-kur).

CHICAGO (AP) — Danny Salazar struck out nine in 3 2/3 innings before being lifted due to pitch count, in Cleveland's 3-1 win over the White Sox. The victory moved the Indians to within a game of Tampa Bay for the second AL wild card spot, before the Rays played tonight.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Nationals fireballer Stephen Strasburg was scratched from tonight's start against Philadelphia because of forearm tightness. Ross Ohlendorf is taking Strasburg's spot and he allowed a run in the top of the first to the Phillies, who are tied with the Nats 1-1 in the early going.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Joey Logano is the pole sitter for the Sunday's opening race of the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. He edged out Brad Keselowski for the top spot. Points leader Matt Kenseth will start 10th.

NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees leadoff man Brett Gardner is out for a lengthy period with a rib cage injury suffered in last night's win over Baltimore. Manager Joe Girardi fears that Gardner could be done for the season.
