NYON, Switzerland (AP) — The coaches of some of Europe's top clubs want UEFA to close the transfer window earlier, even though their owners want to keep the existing September deadline.

Tottenham coach Andre Villas-Boas says "we have alerted UEFA that something has to be done" to avoid disrupting how they prepare their teams.

Napoli coach Rafa Benitez says the "beginning of August" or Aug. 15 was suggested as better deadlines than this season's Sept. 2, which came after European leagues began.

Tottenham's record trade of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid was among the big transfers sealed near Monday's deadline.

Villas-Boas says "the problem is the discrepancy" between coaches and some clubs seeking to ensure Champions League qualification in late-August before getting players.
