KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez drove in three runs and Mike Moustakas went 3 for 4 with a game-winning home run to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander last night. Verlander had not lost to the Royals since September 9th, 2009.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Edinson Volquez was bailed out by his bullpen and earned the victory in San Diego's 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday night. Lance Lynn lost for the fourth time in five starts, allowing four runs in five innings. Allen Craig had a two-run single and 29-year-old rookie Brock Peterson had an RBI groundout in his first major league at-bat.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring sustained before the All-Star break. The move was made retroactive to July 12th for the third batter in the Cardinals lineup, who had missed four games after getting hurt running to first on July 11th at Chicago. The team purchased the contract of first baseman/outfielder Brock Peterson, a Pacific Coast League All-Star at Triple-A Memphis, in time for last night's game.

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Ike Opara scored in the final minute of stoppage time to give Sporting Kansas City a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake last night. Soony Saad had a goal in the 68th minute for Sporting KC, which made the most of a one man advantage.
