ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Houston's Jarred Cosart had quite a major league debut on the mound last night. The Astros hurler didn't allow a hit until Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist's one-out single in the seventh inning as Houston halted the Rays' eight-game winning streak, 2-1.

MIAMI (AP) — The last-place Miami Marlins dealt Stephen Strasburg the worst loss of his career in a 8-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Strasburg fell to 5-7 after giving up a career-high seven earned runs and four walks in two innings -- his shortest stint in the majors that did not involve an injury.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jordy Mercer's single up the middle off Germen Gonzalez drove home Andrew McCutchen with two outs in the 11th inning to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates past the New York Mets 3-2. The Pirates remained a game back of NL Central-leading St. Louis as they halted the Mets' four-game win streak.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Michael Allen is threatening to run away with the U.S. Senior Open with a five-shot lead over Rocco Mediate (MEE'-dee-ayt). Allen's 7-under 63 yesterday was one off the U.S. Senior Open record of 62 by Loren Roberts at Prairie Dunes in 2006.

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Defending champion Zach Johnson, Patrick Reed and Lucas Glover share the midway lead at the PGA's John Deere Classic. They're all at 12 under par, good for a one-shot lead over Matt Jones.
