ST. LOUIS (AP) — Former World Series MVP David Freese finally has his first homer of the season - and it was a grand slam. The St. Louis Cardinals scored five in the first to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 last night. The Brewers pulled close with two 3-run homers by Aramis Ramirez off Jaime Garcia.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — James Shields was a tough-luck loser for the Kansas City Royals once again. Shields pitched into the late innings, but he got very little run support. The Oakland A's earned just their third victory in 11 games with a 2-1 win in Oakland. Newly promoted David Lough drove in the lone Royals run.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have signed another undrafted free agent. Former Kansas defensive end Toben Opurum has signed with the team. He tried out as a fullback during rookie minicamp. The Chiefs have turned over that position in the off-season, trading for Anthony Sherman and drafting Braden Wilson.
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — A Georgetown player is transferring to Kansas State. Sophomore forward Brandon Bolden must sit out next season as required by the NCAA. But when he plays, he'll have three years of eligibility left. He totaled just 5 minutes of playing time last year for the Hoyas.
