ST. LOUIS (AP) — Alex Steen's short-handed goal gave the St. Louis Blues a 2-1 playoff victory last night over the Los Angeles Kings in overtime. Steen stole the puck from Kings goalie Jonathan Quick behind the net and made the game-winning backhander. Los Angeles' Justin Williams had a goal with less than a minute left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds last night. Jaime Garcia improved to 3-1 on the season after allowing one run and seven hits in eight innings. Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer to provide the Cardinals' offense.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — James Shields pitched seven strong innings last night to lead the Kansas City Royals past the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2. Shields earned the win after allowing two runs and striking out seven batters. Mike Moustakas homered and Jeff Francoeur hit an RBI triple for the Royals.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former Southeast Missouri State University women's basketball coach has been arraigned in a multi-state car theft conspiracy. Forty-eight-year-old William Smith appeared in federal court yesterday in St. Louis. Smith is among 21 people charged in the auto theft conspiracy.
