Cody McLeod, Matt Duchene and Chuck Kobasew also had goals for the Avs, who chased goalie Brian Elliott from the game in the second period. David Backes, Jaden Schwartz and Kevin Shattenkirk lit the lamp for St. Louis.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Erik Kratz hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning last night as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3. Reliever Mike Adams tossed a scoreless eighth to help the Phillies split the four-game series. Matt Carpenter hit a solo home run for the Cardinals.
BOSTON (AP) — Lorenzo Cain drew a walk with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to give Kansas City a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox and complete the Royals' sweep of a doubleheader yesterday. Alex Gordon had three hits in the second game for the Royals, including a single in the 10th. Salvador Perez hit a two-run single for Kansas City in the first game.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Matt Kenseth won his second straight race at Kansas Speedway yesterday, becoming the third consecutive Sprint Cup driver to claim victory from the pole. Kenseth won the race off pit road after taking two tires under caution with 47 laps to go. Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five.
