PHOENIX (AP) — Ian Kennedy struck out eight in seven innings last night to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks past the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 in their season opener. Gerardo Parra had four hits and Martin Prado doubled twice for the Diamondbacks. Matt Holliday had an RBI double for the Cardinals.
CHICAGO (AP) — Starter Chris Sale had seven strikeouts yesterday as the Chicago White Sox blanked the Kansas City Royals 1-0 in the season opener. Catcher Tyler Flowers hit a solo home run for the game's only run. James Shields took the loss in his regular season debut for the Royals.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Jaden Schwartz and Andy McDonald both had a goal and an assist last night as the St. Louis Blues beat the Minnesota Wild 4-1. Kevin Shattenkirk and Barret Jackman also scored for the Blues, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Dany Heatley netted the Wild's lone goal.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri point guard Phil Pressey says he's mulling whether to return for his senior season or leave for the NBA draft. Pressey has until the April 28th draft-entry deadline to make up his mind. Pressey and the Tigers were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament by Colorado State.
