KLINGENTHAL, Germany (AP) — Eric Frenzel of Germany claimed his third consecutive Nordic combined World Cup event on Saturday to take the overall lead.
Frenzel led after a jump of 132.5 meters and finished the 10-kilometer cross country race in 23 minutes, 3.4 seconds, beating teammate Tino Edelmann by 10.4 seconds.
Both Germans alternated the lead until the last lap when Edelmann had no answer to the 24-year-old Frenzel's late surge. Wilhelm Denifl of Austria was third.
Defending World Cup champion Jason Lamy Chappuis of France finished fifth, and Frenzel moved two points ahead with seven meets left.
