Chelsea routs Stoke to reach 3rd in Premier League

LONDON (AP) — Chelsea routed Stoke 4-0 Saturday to move into third place in the Premier League, taking advantage of Jonathan Walters' two own goals and missed penalty kick.

Walters headed the ball into his own net on attempted clearances in the second minute of first-half stoppage time and in the 62nd.

Frank Lampard converted a penalty kick in the 65th for his 194th Chelsea goal, moving past Kerry Dixon into sole possession of second place on the club scoring list behind Bobby Tambling's 202. Eden Hazard added a goal from 30 yards in the 73rd as Chelsea became the first Premier League club to win at Brittania Stadium since Sunderland on Feb. 4.

Chelsea (12-4-5) has 41 points and moved past Tottenham (12-6-4), which tied 0-0 at last-place Queens Park Rangers (2-12-8). American midfielder Clint Dempsey entered for Spurs in the 69th.

First-place Manchester United (17-3-1) hosts eighth-place Liverpool (8-6-7) on Sunday, when second-place Manchester City (13-2-6), which trails by seven points, is at sixth-place Arsenal (9-4-7).

Everton and West Bromwich Albion failed to take advantage of Tottenham's slip-up, though, in the fight for Champions league qualification.

Fifth-place Everton (9-3-10) and American goalkeeper Tim Howard were held to a 0-0 tie by visiting Swansea (7-6-9). Seventh-place West Brom (10-9-3) conceded goals to Jimmy Kebe, Adam Le Fondre and Pavel Pogrebnyak from the 82nd on in a 3-2 loss s at 19th-place Reading (3-12-7), which moved two points clear of QPR.

Aston Villa (4-11-7) dropped into the bottom three with a 1-0 home loss to Southampton as Rickie Lambert beat American joalkeeper Brad Guzan with a penalty kick in the 34th. Wigan moved out of the relegation zone thanks to a 1-1 draw at Fulham.

Newcastle tied 0-0 at Norwich and Sunderland beat West Ham 3-0 on goals by Sebastian Larsson, Adam Johnson and James McClean.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Real Madrid tied 0-0 at last-place Osasuna as Cristiano Ronaldo served a one-game suspension for accumulation of yellow cards, leaving it with one win in its last four games.

Kaka entered as a 58th-minute substitute and was ejected in the 76th when he received his second yellow card.

Barcelona (17-0-1) can open an 18-point lead over defending champion Real Madrid (11-4-4) with a victory Sunday at Malaga, which would be Real's largest league deficit since May 1996.

"I don't want to explain why we can be 18 points behind Barcelona," Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said. "Things happened in the first weeks that I don't want to talk about. Then, with the gap already large, one team has the pressure while the other doesn't."

After he was left on the bench by Mourinho for the start of his team's last two league games, Iker Casillas started in goal while Adan Garrido served a suspension for a red card last weekend. Earlier in the week, Casillas was voted the world's top goalkeeper for the fifth straight year.

MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan beat Pescara 2-0 on goals by Rodrigo Palacio in the 30th minute and Fredy Guarin int he 54th, ending an 0-2-1 Serie A slide.

Inter (12-6-2) moved up two spots to third place and trails Juventus (14-3-2) by six points and Lazio (12-4-3) by one. Juventus is at Parma on Sunday and Lazio hosts Atalanta.

Bologna defeated Chievo Verona 4-0 thanks as Alberto Gilardino scored twice between goals from Panagiotis Kone and Manolo Gabbiadini.

PARIS (AP) — Lyon beat Troyes 2-1 to take over the French league lead from Paris Saint-Germain.

Both of Lyon's goals came off corner kicks, with Maxime Gonalons scoring in the 11th minute and Samuel Umtiti in the 75th — Umtiti's first league goal of the season. Benjamin Nivet had tied the score in the 38th.

Lyon (12-3-5) has 41 points, two more than PSG, which was held to a 0-0 tie at home Friday against 18th-place Ajaccio.

Marseille (12-5-2) can moved into first place with a victory Sunday at Sochaux.
