Penn State's former's football coach died Sunday from cancer, two months after he was fired by school officials in the wake of a child sex-abuse scandal involving former longtime assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Timberwolves and All-Star forward Kevin Love have agreed to a four year deal that includes a player option for the final season. Love would have become a restricted free agent this summer if a new deal wasn't in place by 11 p.m. Central time today.
NEW YORK (AP) — After one of its most-successful seasons ever, the NFL is extending the contract of Commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL') through the 2018 season. The 52-year-old Goodell has worked for the league in various positions since 1983. He replaced Paul Tagliabue (TAG'-lee-uh-boo) as commissioner in 2006.
NEW YORK (AP) — One day after two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin (oh-VECH'-kin) backed out of Sunday's NHL All-Star game following a three-game suspension for a hit on a Pittsburgh player, the league is replacing the Washington Capitals star with Penguins goal-scoring leader James Neal. Neal is tied for the league lead with 13 power-play goals.
LONDON (AP) — Police have arrested 97 people for selling fake tickets and bogus hotel rooms ahead of this summer's Olympics. The demand in London during the July 27-Aug. 12 games has been huge, with some rooms going for more than $1,000 per night.
