(KMOV) -- Blues goaltender Ryan Miller will be on the bench, not on the ice, when the Blues take on the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. Miller spent the first 11 years of his career with the Sabres.
“It’s pretty fresh leaving that situation,” said Miller. “Maybe it’s a nice little break. Get Els (Brian Elliott) in there, he’s going to kick some pucks out, and maybe I’ll see some of the boys for dinner, or around the rink, catch up and see how they’re doing.”
Head Coach Ken Hitchcock was willing to let Miller play against his old teammates. Hitchcock said “We talked to him, and asked if he had to play against Buffalo, does it matter? He didn’t care one way or the other, and this set up our schedule nicely for the rest of the season.”
Miller says he’ll give Elliott any information he wants on his former teammates, but says it’ll be very odd watching the Sabres play from the Blues bench. “It’s going to be a little strange,” said Miller. “All great guys. Guys I count as friends. I’m looking forward to seeing them. The human side of it. I’m excited they’re going to be in town, and have a chance to see some friends.”
