(BaseballStL) -- Rookie Tyler Lyons will start Monday against the Reds in place of the injured Jake Westbrook.
Cardinal Manager Mike Matheny announced the move in the dugout before the game Friday against the Braves.
"Tyler's had a strong season and we like where he is right now," he said. "I've seen a couple really nice starts from him and hopefully we can get a few more."
Lyons has started seven games for the Cardinals this season. After winning his first two starts, he hasn't won since, though he's averaged only 2.7 runs in support in his starts.
While not in St. Louis, the 25-year-old has gone 7-2 in Memphis with a 1.05 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 98 innings work.
Matheny didn't specify how long the injury would sideline Westbrook.
"Right now we'll just get him into treatment and see how he responds without making too many predictions."
