(HockeyStL) -- What a birthday surprise for Kevin Shattenkirk: fellow defenseman Barret Jackman has scored more goals this season than he has.
It is only six games into the 48-game abbreviated schedule, but I’m not sure anyone, including Jackman, would think he would have more goals than Shattenkirk at any point this season.
It’s not a knock on Jackman in any form, but Shattenkirk, who turned 24 on Tuesday, is known more for producing points than his defensive-minded linemate.
So how does he feel about Jackman having more goals?
“It will be a bad, bad year if that happens,” Shattenkirk joked. “I told him as long as I’m giving him the puck before he scores I don’t care.”
A lot of the pucks that have ended up as goals for the Blues this season have come from his stick. He has posted eight points, all assists, in the first six games.
The goal scored by Jackman on Sunday night was only the 21st goal in 604 games played. Shattenkirk has scored 18 goals in 159 career games.
