(BaseballStL) -- Due to the rainout yesterday in Fort Myers Adam Wainwright, as previously reported, will start today at home against the Marlins with Lance Lynn coming in relief.

Since Wainwright is yet to make a start and he was completely warmed up yesterday to face the Twins, he's going to have a very short day.  It may not be more than 30 pitches before the staff ace gets pulled.

As for Lynn, he's coming through for the second time in spring.  That means it's time to ramp up the pitch count a little bit more.

"[Pitching coach Derek Lilliquist] will be keeping a close eye but he could be up towards that 50-55 pitch range considering most of these guys are coming off that original 40 pitch number. Same for [Carlos]Martinez," Matheny said.

Martinez is starting the road game of the split squad in Port St. Lucie.  He's battling Joe Kelly for the 5th and final spot in the starting rotation after Wainwright, Lynn, Shelby Miller and Michael Wacha.
