(KMOV.com) -- One of the biggest weeks in SLU basketball history led to top-20 rankings in the two major college basketball rankings released Monday.

The Billikens jumped from the “others receiving votes” category to being ranked 18th by the Associated Press and 19th in the USA Today coaches poll.

SLU, 21-5, beat then-No. 24 VCU at home on Tuesday before taking down then-No. 15 Butler on road on Friday. It’s the first time the Billikens have been ranked since being in the top 25 for one week last season. Overall, it’s the school’s highest ranking in the AP poll since being ranked 16th in the 1993-1994 season.

The Billikens now have sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 with a 10-2 conference record.

As for other teams in the area, Illinois is sixth of 14 teams mentioned in the AP’s “others” category, while Missouri is last among them with one vote.

According to the latest RPI rankings, Illinois leads the local pack at 34, while St. Louis and Missouri are 34th and 38th, respectively.
