(BaseballStL) — The Cardinals welcomed back another familiar face Wednesday, recalling outfielder Shane Robinson from Memphis and sending down Joey Butler in his place.

After starting with the big club to open the season, Robinson was sent down after going 2-for-20 in 16 games.

“Some timing, bad luck, had four or five line outs that could have gone either way, he said at his locker. “I wasn’t expecting it, but I had the option so I knew it was possible. It was good to get down there, get some consistent abs and feel good at the plate again.”

Once in Memphis, he posted a slash line of .371/.443/.435. He had multiple hits in seven of his 18 games and hit over .500 against lefties.

Robinson made his name memorable with a tremendous appearance in the 2013 NLCS, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and sparking a 9-0 rout of the Dodgers in Game Six.

Returning to St. Louis for the sixth time, the diminutive outfielder is focused on quality work, even if it isn’t consistent.

“I don’t know what the plan is up here, but I’ll be ready to go whenever they need me. I’m just glad to be back,” he said. “I didn’t expect to go down and now that I’m back I don’t want to go back down again.”

Butler, who will be optioned to Memphis, appeared in only six games for St. Louis, going 0-for-5 with a walk. After getting sporadic playing time in the bigs, he will have to fight for opportunities in a loaded AAA outfield, something Mike Matheny acknowledged Wednesday.

“It’s as tough a place to get playing time as this is,” he said.
