(BaseballStL) – It’s been a rough week and a half for the Cardinals, not only losing 3 of 4 to cross-state rivals the Kansas City Royals, but also losing their last 7 of 10 games to fall to 5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

The road won’t get any easier as the Redbirds face the first place team in the AL East – the Toronto Blue Jays. Yep, you read that right, the Blue Jays have a 5 game lead over the Baltimore Orioles and 6 on the Yankees.

The Jays have won their last 5 and won 8 of their last 10 games – the complete opposite of the Cards.

Lance Lynn takes the hill against the Jay’s rookie Marcus Stroman, who will make his second start of the season. In his last start against the Royals, Stroman threw 6.0 innings and gave up just one earned run and struck out six.

Stroman relies on his four-seam fastball in all counts against a batter, no matter if he is ahead or behind, and his curveball and cutter.

The Redbirds will not face former-Card Colby Rasmus Friday who has been out with an injured hamstring. The Toronto Sun’s Steve Buffery reported Thursday that he believe the Jays should trade Rasmus.

Molina nails Aoki

If you missed the play in the first inning Thursday, Yadier Molina catches a ball thrown by Michael Wacha while Nori Aoki was up to bat. But as the All-Star catcher tossed the ball back to Wacha, his throw sent the base straight into Aoki’s helmet.

The Royals’ lead-off hitter fell to the ground immediately and Molina also checked on Aoki, but he finished his at-bat and stayed in the game.
