(FootballSTL) – The St. Louis Rams signed two-time Pro Bowl guard Davin Joseph to a one-year deal, the team officially announced on Wednesday.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Joseph, who missed all of 2012 with an injury and played inconsistently as a 16-game starter in 2013, was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.

He will provide insurance to an offense that may have to re-work its line if entrenched starting left tackle Jake Long, who is rehabbing from knee surgery, is forced to miss any regular season time.

Under that scenario, Joseph could play guard with either Roger Saffold or No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson sliding to left tackle.

According to Pro Football Focus, Joseph’s level of play has dipped significantly in recent seasons, as can be seen in the graph below.
