(Football StL) - He's best known as the victim of the infamous "butt fumble", and he may be coming to St. Louis. Rams coach Jeff Fisher told USA Today he's interested in signing Sanchez to become the Rams new backup quarterback.

"I'd say that there is interest," Fisher told USAToday.com at the league's owners meetings. "I can't say how much. But there certainly would be interest. I don't have a backup with experience on the roster right now.''

Kellen Clemens has been the backup the past two seasons, but signed with the San Diego Chargers earlier this month.

Sanchez was a first round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2009. The Jets went to back-to-back AFC Championship games with Sanchez as their quarterback. His play slipped in 2011 and 2012 however, when he combined for 36 interceptions and 16 fumbles. Last season he was replaced as the Jets starter with Geno Smith.

Sanchez played under current Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in New York.

"Brian had a good relationship with Mark,'' Fisher said."He's just learning. He's been to the AFC Championship game a couple of times, so he's been there.''

The Rams currently have two quarterbacks on their roster; Sam Bradford and Austin Davis.
