(FootballSTL) -- A week after hardly getting any touches for newly acquired tight end Jared Cook and first round draft choice Tavon Austin, quarterback Sam Bradford made it a point to get his two fast targets involved this week versus Green Bay.
Austin was targeted a team high seven times (catching four) while Cook caught a short pass and raced 37 yards with it down the field. Bradford says it was great to get them involved, especially the rookie from West Virginia.
“After last week with (Austin) not getting any receptions, we wanted to try to get him the ball - a couple touches,” said Bradford. “I thought he did a great job. Obviously (Jared) Cook, too. He took a shallow reception for 30-something yards. I think those two guys are going to be big parts of our offense during the season, so it’s nice to get them involved in the preseason.”
Cook agreed with Bradford’s assessment.
“It was good to get a catch in,” said Cook. “I wish we had a little more time to prove what the offense could do, but I understand it’s a stepping stone and we’re still building. We’ve still got two more games left, so we’ll get ready for the regular season.”
The Rams play the Broncos next Saturday against Denver in their third preseason game. News 4 and Football STL will be there with full coverage on air and online.
