(FootballStL) - Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis compares hitting Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to a tight end.
At 6'5’’ and 250 pounds, Newton offers a big challenge for the Rams defense this Sunday. Newton comes into this matchup with 1,127 yards passing and 9 touchdowns.
"Tremendous athlete,” head coach Jeff Fisher said. "Great arm, strength, accuracy and mobility. He extends plays with his legs."
Newton's ability to run is not good news for a Rams defense that's ranked 30th in the NFL against the rush.
"He's got a talented group around him,” Fisher said of Newton. “Both tight ends, the running back are good players. You have to prepare for everything."
Rams rookie Alec Olgetree will try to lock down on Newton, after returning a 98 yard interception for a touchdown last week in the Rams win over Houston.
"He's seeing things for the first time," Fisher said of Olgetree. “But I think his interception on Sunday is evidence of his preparation and studying."
