ST. LOUIS (FootballStL) -- You can’t expect to beat him. You can only hope to contain him.
That’s what you tell your defense if you are on the opposite side of the field as Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. The Rams defense did a lot to contain Peterson, but allowed an 82-yard touchdown run in the second quarter with the score tied at the time.
Sunday’s game also featured a major rushing achievement for Steven Jackson. He surpassed the 10,000 career rushing yard mark in the third quarter. He rushed for 73 yards on 13 attempts against the Vikings.
Jackson told reporters on Thursday that he gets more excited when he faces a running back like Peterson.
“I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t,” Jackson said. “He’s having an unbelievable year. I’m actually really happy for him, the way he’s bounced back. It’s very inspirational.”
Peterson’s “unbelievable year” continued Sunday against the Rams as he rushed for 212 yards on 24 attempts. He entered the game with 1,600 rushing yards this season.
Peterson spoke highly of Jackson this week to the St. Louis media saying it would be fun to share the field with him on Sunday.
“He’s got good speed, got incredible feet, great vision,” Peterson said. “He’s a guy before I got in the league that I used to love watching.”
