ST. LOUIS (KMOV) — Hall of Famer Ozzie “The Wizard” Smith is planning to auction his 13 Gold Gloves and a pair of World Series rings beginning Wednesday.
Bidding for the online sale will start Wednesady and end Dec. 1.
SCP Auctions said Smith decided on the auction, which also includes 11 All-Star game rings, as part of estate and family planning.
”My family and I have decided together which of my pieces to keep and which to share,” Smith said in a statement when the auction announcement was originally made. “I will forever cherish every experience associated with earning these awards. ... I hope those who are passionate about collecting and preserving such items will gain a similar measure of joy through their ownership.”
Smith, 57, made just under $32 million ($31,650,000) in his playing career, according to Baseball-Reference.com. He retired after the 1996 season and has had various entrepreneur ventures—like a restaurant and salad dressing—since his playing days.
