(BaseballStL) -- David Freese is involved in the newest Cardinals trade rumor. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted that the Cardinals have had discussions with the Los Angeles Angels involving Freese. The Angels are in need of a third baseman, and have assets the Cardinals would be interested in.
The deal currently being discussed does not involve Angels shortstop Erik Aybar, or one of the Cardinals young pitchers. Instead, the Cardinals are believed to be interested in one of the Angels outfielders, probably center fielder Peter Bourjos. With Carlos Beltran likely to depart via free agency, and Jon Jay coming off a disappointing season, the Cardinals could use an elite defensive outfielder like Bourjos.
Bourjos is 26 years old. He bats and throws right handed. He’s very fast, but hasn’t hit much in his four years in the majors. He missed much of 2013 with an injury, and wound up hitting .274 with 3 home runs in 175 at bats.
