ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The NCAA has put the University of Missouri-St. Louis on probation for two years, citing wagering violations within the men's golf program.
The NCAA Division II Committee on Infractions announced the penalty on Friday. Dustin Ashby was head coach at the time of the infractions, from 2004 to 2008.
Ashby did not return a phone call seeking comment. A spokesman says the university will not appeal.
The NCAA says the head golf coach paid an entry fee and played fantasy football and baseball for prizes, violating NCAA rules on sports wagering.
The coach also bought and operated an online fantasy football business and hired the former volunteer coach, who acted as commissioner. The NCAA says the volunteer coach then hired three of the team's golfers.
