TAMPA, Fla. (BaseballSTL)  - Third baseman David Freese will return to the field for the first time in seven days when the Cardinals take on the New York Yankees Monday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Freese suffered a bruised tailbone on March 4 when he fell into the stands while attempting to catch a foul pop-up. He’s served as the designated hitter the past few days but returns to third base for the first time since the fall Monday. He will bat third for the ESPN nationally televised game at 12:05 CT.

The Cardinals came over from Jupiter following Sunday’s game and will send a lineup that includes Freese, Jon Jay, Matt Carpenter, Matt Adams, Pete Kozma and Shane Robinson against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Minor League infielder Jamie Romak was called up to make the start at first base.

Lance Lynn will make his third start of the spring on the mound for the Cardinals.
