(KMOV.com) -- The Missouri Tigers will play Oklahoma State in the AT&T Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas (Cowboys Stadium) on January 3.

The Tigers loss to Auburn in the SEC title game knocked them out of the BCS bowl picture. One conference can only have two teams in the BCS bowls. Auburn has one of those spots. They’ll play Florida State for the BCS National Championship on January 6th in Pasadena.

Alabama was awarded the SEC’s second BCS bowl berth. The Crimson Tide are headed to the All State Sugar Bowl to play Oklahoma on January 2nd in New Orleans.

Tommy Bain, Chairman of the AT&T Cotton Bowl, said they were excited to have Missouri and Oklahoma State.

"We just landed two of the preeminent teams in the country, and we couldn't be more thrilled," Bain said, "Missouri and Oklahoma State are capable of lighting up the scoreboard in a hurry."

Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel says his team is proud to be representing the SEC. “I think you always are in bowl games. There’s certainly a great deal of pride in representing the SEC,” said Pinkel. The Tigers are familiar with Oklahoma State having played them for many years in the Big 12, but Pinkel says he hasn’t seen much of them this season.

“Just a little bit,” said Pinkel. “I have enough things to worry about in this conference.”

Wide receiver L’Damian Washington sent out a tweet after the Cotton Bowl announcement saying “I always wanted to play in Jerry’s world!”

Jerry’s world is, of course, the Dallas Cowboys billion dollar domed stadium.

Mizzou will take a week off from practice and begin workouts for the Cotton Bowl on Monday, December 16.

Mizzou will put tickets for the public on sale on Monday at noon.
