(BaseballStL) – In his last three starts, Cardinals starter Shelby Miller has taken two no decisions despite throwing two quality starts in the Redbirds push for first place in the NL Central.

This will be Miller’s third career start against the Phillies having gone 1-1 in his career against NL East foe. In his start this season against the Phillies, Miller allowed four runs on seven hits that resulted in a 4-1 loss back in June.

Miller will need help from his offense that was held scoreless in their last six innings in their 5-4 loss to the Phillies Friday night.

Matt Holliday accounted for half of the Cardinals’ runs Friday night with a first inning double that scored Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong. The double was Holliday’s 30th of the season, giving him his 5th consecutive season as a Cardinal with 30 or more doubles and 10th season of his career.

Stan Musial holds the Cardinals’ record for 13-straight 30 or more doubles in a season from 1946-1958.

Cardinals extend deal with Peoria Chiefs

The Cardinals and minor league affiliate the Peoria Chiefs (A) agreed on a four-year extension of their player development contract.

“The Peoria Chiefs continue to run a first-class operation providing us with outstanding support of our player development efforts,” GM John Mozeliak said, “We look forward to our continued relationship with the Chiefs and the Peoria community.”

In 2002, the Chiefs won their only Midwest League Championship. Yadier Molina and Jason Motte both played for the Chiefs.
