JUPITER, Fla. -- The box score overall wasn't anything to write home about for starting pitcher Lance Lynn. In four innings he surrendered three runs on four hits while walking three.

But for the big man out of Ole Miss, it was simply an experimental day in his penultimate start before the regular season kicks off.
"The first two innings we were doing what we wanted to do," Lynn said. "The next inning we started mixing in the breaking balls. The (fourth) inning I got myself in a situation where I was going to throw a breaking ball for a strike no matter what and I kept throwing it for a ball."
The result was three walks. So was this game more about process than results?
"That's what spring training is in general. It's all about the process of getting ready for the regular season. They tell you when you come in that all you're trying to do is get better," Lynn said.
Lynn's spring training ERA is 6.35 overall in Grapefruit League play. But with Jaime Garcia out for the time being Lynn doesn't have to worry about impressing to cement a spot in the rotation. He's firmly locked in for now.
