(BaseballStL) -- If there was any shot that Lance Lynn wasn’t going to be in the starting rotation this season, that shot went out the window when Jaime Garcia got hurt.

Now that he doesn’t have to worry about any competition, Lynn can just get ready for his 4th season with the Cardinals.  He threw two scoreless innings today in his Grapefruit League opener.

“For me it’s about getting the pitches in and getting the pitch count built up.  Today was just getting out there for the first time, getting back used to it.  Now it’s just about building up pitches,” Lynn said.

Lynn didn’t even make it to 30 pitches but admits he doesn’t need a whole lot of work at this point in spring.  At this point in his career he knows exactly what he needs to do to get ready for a full 6-month regular season.

“This is the best I’ve felt, arm wise, ever.  I’m looking forward to that and not having to worry about things I’ve had to worry about in the past,” Lynn said.
