(BaseballStL) – The Cardinals send Lance Lynn to the hill Sunday in hopes to avoid a sweep from the Baltimore Orioles, something that's never happened to the Cardinals.

Sunday will be Lynn’s team leading 24th starts of the season and his first ever start against the Orioles. Lynn faced the Orioles once as a relief pitcher, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings and five strike outs back on June 28, 2011.

The Orioles have outscored the Cards 22-5 with 9 homers over the last two games. Luckily for the Cardinals, Lynn has the third fewest home runs allowed over 9 innings at 0.45. He’s given up just 7 homers, however, 6 of those homers have come on the road.

Press Box Notes

Since coming off the disabled list on July 6, Kolten Wong is tied for second in MLB with eight homers. He’s slugging .549 with 15 runs batted in, including his first multi-home run game Thursday against the Red Sox.

The Cardinals have four players with 26 doubles or more, Jhonny Peralta (29), Matt Holliday (26), Matt Carpenter (26) and Matt Adams (26). The only other team in the NL to boast the same stats is the Milwaukee Brewers.

This series serves as just the third time the Cardinals and the Orioles (the former St. Louis Browns) have played each other since the 1944 Streetcar World Series.
